You must believe this reality is unbelievable

- Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

A statement of belief, some guiding principles... Bless you all mother sentient beings

I am a sincere simple man, simple needs and an idealistic view with a good heart and a mind of faith. Out of primordial meditation comes the nature of mind. The subtle formations of karma and ignorant self grasping, the causes and conditions of my presence here now... With our body speech and mind we embody space in a womb of time. With our imagination we create visions of light from with in the mind of our heart. Most of us have not found a path to achieve perfect wisdom which stops the cycle of incarnations. We are born, we live, we die. How we live in this life determines our next life. This life is short, and our future lives are many.

I believe we need to motivate to make our best effort to learn from the past and to primarily focus our life on the present. In that present we need to welcome and bring in the future. By the future I mean to say our goal or potential destination; our state of mind now and when we get there. We use our mind most skillfully when we dedicate the merit of our action to attain enlightenment for all sentient beings. By means of such virtuous actions: We increase our good qualities, produce happiness and we protect our good fortune.

What does it mean to bring future into present ?

This is my idea of a time machine. I have many clients who come to me with their private personal problems. In gleaning your astrology chart of the moment when you were born as a map of your karma, I look back, then ahead, and gently ask you to share what is happening in the present. We look together into the future and see what good fortune and difficult circumstances may be waiting for you. My experience tells me, it is not wise to wait for the future in a state of fear. We affect the future by the way we think and act in the present moment. We can affect the future through the use of wise, sincere and ardent prayer first for others and then for ourselves. We capture the potential of the moment, mindfully we infuse it with prayer energy. If done correctly we can transform our karma or the causes and conditions which brought us here today. Buddhist practice involves ancient ritualistic, imaginative prayer combined with mudra and mantra in profoundly worded Sadhanas. One of the most powerful tantric methods for training the mind is to bring the future or buddhahood into the present path. By doing this we try to bring Enlightenment into the present moment, immediately if not sooner. It is called the quick path.

The importance of the Bodhisattva and Tantric Vows.

As Geshe-la has stated, The Perfection of Wisdom Sutra and the Lam Rim teachings explain extensively the practice of the six perfections as the commitment of the Bodhisattva vows. These perfections are the practice of giving, moral discipline, patience, effort, concentration and wisdom motivated by the compassionate mind of Bodhichitta. Through sincerely engaging in the practice of these six perfections I can fulfill all  my commitments of the Bodhisattva Vows.

I am aware that sincere daily practice of the Lam Rim in Heart Jewel, The Great Mother Prajnaparamita and the Mahamudra Tantra Quick Path of Vajrayogini practice may not be enough to realize my own mind and attain Buddhahood.  In my tradition, I have been taught to mindfully do my level best in practicing dharma. This involves cherishing all living beings, as in the practice of giving love. Thus there is no basis for incurring any downfalls of the Pratimoksha, Bodhisattva & Tantric vows, because these downfalls are necessarily motivated by self-cherishing ignorance.

Since beginningless time we have cherished only ourself.

So strong has been our self-cherishing that we have never forgotten

our own welfare for a moment, even during sleep.

Again and again this attitude has caused us to create

the karma to be reborn in samsara and experience relentless suffering.

- Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

Furthermore, I have learned the best method for preventing my vows from degenerating is to listen to my kind teacher, sincerely maintain pure moral discipline, train in renunciation, Bodhichitta, study carefully and learn the correct view of emptiness, and to practice generation and completion stage to overcome ordinary appearances and conceptions. All of the above methods are conducive to overcoming ordinary attitudes, controlling my mind, and removing any bases for incurring  downfalls. The commitments of the Bodhisattva and Tantric Vows are the basic foundation upon which the realizations of Mahayana and Vajrayana grow. If we neglect these commitments, then our practice of Mahayana and Vajrayana will be powerless. However, through fulfilling the commitments of the Pratimoksha, Bodhisattva and Tantric Vows we can make quick progress on the special spiritual path to enlightenment.

Some breezy words from Rev.Billy Bliemo....

I suggest we have a nice pot of tea , a biscuit and some tawny orange marmalade. A little goat cheese with a piece of fruit. It’s always good to take a walk in nature or the park with a friend, Share the good company and conversation. Do your practice, say your prayers morning, noon and night, don’t get uptight. Do nothing in excess. Watch the birds. Treat others as you would have them treat you. Read a book of dharma or scripture and study. Listen to the music. Smell the begonia. Love your spiritual guide, Realize your own mind. Lord Buddha Bless you. - B.K.  2/21/2009

Interfaith Ordination Vow

“I Promise to Serve the Religious and Spiritual needs

of all People of All Faiths regardless of race, creed,

color or gender so help me God”

Bodhisattva Vow

“Oh Gurus, Buddhas, and Bodhisattvas

Please listen to what I now say

Just as all the previous Sugatas

Generated the mind of enlightenment

and accomplished all the stages of the Bodhisattva training,

So will I too for the sake of all beings, Generate the mind of enlightenment

and accomplish all the stages of the Bodhisattva training.”

Tantra Vow

O Guru Buddha Shakyamuni

please listen to what I now say

From this time forth until I attain Enlightenment

For the sake of all living beings

I shall maintain the general and individual Vows and

Commitments of the five Buddha families,

I shall deliver those not delivered from lower rebirth.

Liberate those not liberated from samsaric rebirth

Give breath – the spiritual life of Vajrayana – to those

unable to engage in the Vajrayana path.

And to lead all beings to a state beyond sorrow.

The state of enlightenment.

Mantras are invocations to Buddhas ...prayers, or a combination of these. Tantric practitioners repeat them in order to forge karmic connections between themselves and meditational deities and to effect cognitive restructuring through internalizing the divine attributes that the mantra represents.

There are only two mistakes one can make along the road to truth;

not going all the way, and not starting.  - the Buddha

Mantras start a powerful vibration which corresponds

to both a specific spiritual energy frequency

and a state of consciousness in seed form.

Over time, the mantra process begins to override

all of the other smaller vibrations, which eventually

become absorbed by the mantra.

After a length of time which varies from individual to individual,

the great wave of the mantra stills all other vibrations.

Ultimately, the mantra produces a state where the organism vibrates

at the rate completely in tune with the energy and spiritual

state represented by and contained within the mantra.

At this point, a change of state occurs in the organism.

The organism becomes subtly different.

Just as a laser is light which is coherent in a new way,

the person who becomes one with the state produced

by the mantra is also coherent in a way which did not exist

prior to the conscious undertaking of repetition of the mantra.

  - Thomas Ashley-Farrand from Healing Mantras

Mantra is

a Sanskrit word,

literally meaning

`mind protection’.

Mantra protects the mind

from ordinary

appearances and conceptions.

There are four types of mantra:

mantras that are mind,

mantras that are inner wind,

mantras that are sound,

and mantras that are form.

In general, there are

three types of mantra recitation:

verbal recitation,

mental recitation,

and vajra recitation.

There have been many Buddhas

Buddhas in the future.

All living beings have the Buddha nature

and can become Buddhas.

We are the same as plants, as trees,

as other people, as the rain that falls.

We consist of that which is around us,

we are the same as everything.

However many holy words you rea

However many you speak,

What good will they do you If

If we integrate Buddha's teachings into our daily life, we will be able to solve all our inner problems and attain a truly peaceful mind. without inner peace, outer peace is impossible, if we first establish peace within our minds by training in spiritual paths, outer peace will come naturally: but if we do not, world peace will never be achieved, no matter how many people campaign for it.

- Geshe Kelsang Gyatso

However many holy words you read

However many you speak,

What good will they do you If

you do not act on upon them?

We should not think that

buddha helps only those who follow him.

Buddha attained enlightenment to benefit all living beings,

He manifests in many different forms, sometimes even as

non-Buddhist teachers, to help others, There is no living being who has not benefited from the kindness of Buddha

Patience is the best adornment for those with power and the perfect ascetic practice for those tormented by delusions. It is the high-soaring eagle as the enemy of the snake of anger, and the thickest armor against the weapons of abusive language. Knowing this, (the wise) have accustomed themselves in various ways and forms to the armor of supreme patience. I, the yogi, have practiced just that.

You who also seek liberation, please cultivate yourself in the same way.
